Where Classic Met Contemporary

Updated: Sep 27, 2018

Don't you love it when a plan comes together?. I had the pleasure of working with the contractor to see this remodel through from start to finish. But of course, my favorite part was the tile work.

Added bonus - the homeowner, Doña Thewes, happens to be an Interior Designer, which shines through in all of her selections.

This was my second time working with the Paloma Encaustic 8x8 Glazed Porcelain floor tile from Home Depot. The perfectionist in me is constantly on high alert when laying this tile. Each piece is made to be unique. Therefore, perfect grout lines and matching the edges of the pattern is truly impossible. Yet, rule follower or not, how couldn't you fall in love?.

I absolutely adore the finished look.

Not wanting to detract from the eye catching floor, Doña chose a 3x6 white ceramic tile in a classic subway pattern for the back splash. The simple, bright tile provides a clean finish to this updated, stylish kitchen.

I love the classic feel of the black and white with the twist of a contemporary pattern. Doña selected brass fixtures and finishes that subtly stand out, bringing elegance and class to this beautiful kitchen.

I think it looks fantastic, great design Doña!

If you're in need of an Interior Designer, I highly recommend emailing Doña at

*Note: The light fixture above the sink is being replaced with a gorgeous brass sconce once it arrives.
