Classy and Cozy

This client had her fireplace done just in time for our cold winter nights. She came across the photos of a fireplace I tiled in October and loved it. It also happens to have the exact same mantle.
I used Schluter trim in Graphite Aluminum to match the freshly painted firebox. I really like how it blends and doesn't detract attention from the tile. And this tile!! It remains to be one of my favorites. Delicate but bold, with each piece perfectly unique, this designer is talented.
The tile on the fireplace face is Patch Art Light by Decortiles with Meram Blanc Carrara polished marble on the hearth, both found at The Tile Shop. I used a different mortar this time, Mapei's Ultraflex LHT, and loved it. You wouldn't think varieties in mortar would make so much of a difference, but seriously, I could go on and on about the creamy texture of this mortar and it's ability to work excellently with moisture absorbent marble for much longer than you want to read. I finished with Mapei's FlexColor grout and caulk in Avalanche.
I really enjoyed my time with this client. A definite highlight to this job has been meeting so many wonderful people that I wouldn't have met otherwise. I can picture her curling up next to this fire and feeling the peace it is bound to radiate.
