Bring it on, Fall!
This week's project has been in the works for several months. Back in January I painted the firebox in preparation for the gas conversion. With the firebox prepped and the gas insert installed, the homeowner was ready for tile, just in time for Fall weather.
My approach to a fireplace project is fairly fine tuned. This one was a bit different in that I was able to form the design by matching the branches in a variety of ways. The face of the fireplace is this beautiful 4D Nature White porcelain tile from The Tile Shop.
For the hearth, my client selected Neo White 12x24 porcelain, also from The Tile Shop. I think it worked out beautifully here. Not distracting from the decorative tiles, but blending well. We used Mapei's Ultracolor Plus FA in White for the fireplace face, and their Flexcolor CQ for in Frost for the Hearth.
The most challenging aspect of the job came from the heat deflector. The new deflector mounts inside the firebox. Three drillbits later I decided to up my game and purchased this beautiful set from Tapcon. It made a world of difference drilling the pilot holes as well as the screws. I highly recommend it for drilling brick or concrete.
I truly enjoy getting to know my clients. I get to meet people that I would never come across otherwise. And while my goal is to always provide my best quality work, there are some clients who affect you just a bit more. Clients who you want, more than anything, to love the end result. And this was one of them.
